Katherine is [info]intime thanks to [info]time_mod
With the horses that you ride,
And the feelings left inside,
there's a time you need to leave it all behind

Name: Katherine Pryde (goes by 'Kate')
Codename: In her world she's sometimes called Shadow. It's not a codename, but a kind of nickname.
Age: 24
Character Base: Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat
Home Reality: Earth-112

What did this person do wrong to be pulled out by the Timebroker? The Witch Selene is going to plunge the land into darkness. Key to her plan is one Illyana Rasputin - and Kate and her traveling companion Piotr can't rush off swords a swinging to save Piotr's sister. Illyana has to die, because if she doesn't she's going to be a vital part of having darkness rule across the land.

Appearance: Kate has long dark hair, and a fair complexion. She is not very tall -- standing at about 5"3, and not an overly muscular woman. She has an athletic build -- and in praticular her arms are very well muscled, as she is use to carrying and wielding a broadsword. Clothing wise -- she is most comfortable in clothing from her own reality (tunics, tights, or dresses). However since she came to the reality that the Exiles reside in with just the clothes on her back, she is getting use to more modern clothing -- she hates sneakers however, and likes to wear the boots that she came from her reality in.
PB: Katie McGrath

Powers / Skills

Powers

Kate becomes ghost like and passes through solid objects. She's not able to breathe while she's phasing, so if she's passing through a thick wall she needs to make sure she's going to have enough air in her lungs to make it through. She can phase other people along with her, although at this time, she's only able to make herself, and one other person intangible.

In theory Kate can phase only parts of her body, for example she could make her arm go all intangible, but keep her feet solid. This takes a lot of concentration, and while it is a skill that Kitty someday hopes to master, at the moment she's quite content to simply let her whole body go intangible at once. Theory also states that since Kate is lighter than air when she's in her phased state, that she could in theory kind of "air walk" through the air.
She's never tried this, as while she thinks sure,it sounds great in theory, she's worried about suddenly becoming solid and going splat.

The use of her abilities also interferes with any electrical systems ... so if she goes ghost like while holding an iPod, well the iPod is going to get the bad end of that deal. Of course there is an upside to this, if she wants to break something all she has to do is go intangible and wave her arm through said mechanical thing. However the world that Kate comes from does not have technology that could be adversely effected by her going intangible — so Kate is unaware of this fact.

Skills

Kate has all the skills that she needs to be an adventurer her in her world. She can ride a horse -- and is a very good equestrian. She's also skilled in sword fighting, map reading (well reading maps of her world), and haggling with innkeepers to get a better deal on her rooms.

Weaknesses: When she's not in her ghost state she is susceptible to any and all physical attacks. When she is phased sure, she can laugh in the face of danger than, but she is still susceptible to telepathic attacks, when in her intangible state. There is also the part where she's a bit of a hot head at times, so her judgment can become clouded by her emotions.

Kate's body naturally exists in a ghost state -- and it takes concentration on her part (although it is a minimal concentration) to keep herself solid. So when startled she will sometimes go all ghost like involuntarily.

Kate is also a bit (a lot) of a hot head, impulsive, and quick to leap into danger. While not easily frightened, the world she comes from is very different from the world that the Exiles reside in between missions. She has no knowledge of video games, TV, cars, indoor plumbing . . . this means that she can be rather naive at times, and has a tendency to believe what people tell her about the technology of the world she has found herself in. She thinks of a lot of it is rather silly — but who is she to debate the wisdom of watching people act out plays on a tiny box?

Personality: Words like "feisty" come to mind. Kate has a short temper, a very short tempter and is prone to jumping to conclusions and making snap judgments. The good thing is that while her fuse is short, she doesn't stay mad for very long, and is very quick to forgive if not outright forget. She carries grudges, and isn't quick to let them completely go, although she will bury the hatchet, she never forgets that the hatchet existed in the first place.

Kate gets very excited and enthused about things, and likes to share her enthusiasm, and excitement with everyone. She'll talk someone's ear off about her latest interest, if they let her, and she's very outgoing and opinionated, having no problem sharing her world views with total strangers.

Kate has very definite opinions on right, and wrong, and tends to view the world in shades of black, and white. She is slowly starting to allow for some gray in her world view, and realizing that not everyone can be sorted into good guy, and bad guy categories. She believes that the underdog should always be rooted for, and loves when a David gets to take down a Goliath.

Likes: Sunsets, traveling, horses.
Dislikes: Cheats, liars, people who give up, bullies.

Overview:

★ Katherine is the only child of Carmen and Shelia Pryde, he was a blacksmith in the village that she was born into. Her childhood was rather unremarkable, she enjoyed listening to stories about dragons, knights, princesses, and pirates. She liked to act out these stories -- she was a very adventurous child, and very active. She was always getting into everything, and her parents spent a lot their time when she was younger chasing her around.

★ As she got older, Katherine began to pick up on the fact that her parents did not exactly ... get along. She tried to be even more animated, and excitable, and outgoing. She thought if she could make her parents laugh at her, or get annoyed at her, that they would stop scowling at each other and yelling at each other. This did not work out so well for Kate, her parents just became annoyed at her, and annoyed with each other.

★ She stared suffering from pains in her head when she was a young woman. She didn't share this with anyone, and just decided to suffer in silence. It never occurred to her that her headaches had anything to do with the fact that she was one of the gifted.

★ She discovered that she was in fact one of the gifted when she was in the barn located on her families homestead. She's chasing one of the barn cats, and she fell through the upper level of the barn, and down to the level below. Thankfully she landed in a pile of hay, so she saved herself from any serious damage.

★ Kate was quick to show her parents that she had powers -- because well she wanted to move away from her parents. See the world! Have adventures just like the stories that she loved! Plus as a bonus she wouldn't have to be around while her parents were fighting anymore . . .

★ Kate was quick to show her parents that she had powers -- because well she wanted to move away from her parents. See the world! Have adventures just like the stories that she loved! Plus as a bonus she wouldn't have to be around while her parents were fighting anymore . .

★ Her parents were not sure what they were going to do with their daughter — they would rather have preferred she didn't go off seeking fame, fortune, and adventure. However shortly after Kate's discovery of her powers, two members of the Knights of Xavier arrived at the Pryde home, and made a case for Katherine to come with them, and be trained by their organization. The two made a convincing case (not to mention the fact that Kate begged and pleaded with her parents), and Kate packed her bags, and left her home with the two Knights of Xavier.

★ Logan and Ororo escorted the young Kate to the estate that the head of their order lived on, and Kate made the acquaintance of the other recruits and one Charles Xavier. Although Kate didn't always one hundred percent agree with the world view of Xavier, she made fast friends there, and felt like she had found her niche in the world.

★ One of the people that Kate befriended while at Xavier's was Piotr. Kate developed quite the crush on her fellow knight -- although she got the impression that he viewed her as just a friend. This caused Kate to mope quite a bit. She soon came up with a plan however -- Piotr was one of the knights that traveled the countryside ... so Kate decided that was going to be her goal as well. She threw herself into her training, working hard on learning swordplay, honing her equestrian skills, and practicing with the powers that made her one of the "gifted".

★ After refining her skills -- Kate joined the ranks of the Knights of Xavier's. She managed to convince all parties involved that it would be best for her and Piotr to become partners, and tour the countryside together. And that is what the two have done since. They work as partners, sometimes teaming up with other members of the Knights of Xavier.

★ She and Piotr most commonly clash with the Imperial Knights -- Kate and Piotr know about the Hellfire Society and there is no love lost between Kate and the White Queen of that group.

★ Hauled from her time, just as she and Piotr were heading back to Xavier's to report in. Had they made it, they would have found out about Illyana's kidnapping, They would have rushed off to save her -- and succeeded. Only to find that the girl they managed to save was not the Illyana that they knew, but one who had been warped by dark magic, and who would unleash darkness upon the land.
